Everyone knows that the food they put into their body is important but not everyone realizes how important. We know a poor diet can lead to obesity, heart disease, poor cholesterol, and diabetes but did you also know how important a proper diet is for your mental health, energy, and sleep? Nutrition is such a massive component of your overall well-being and health. It will not be overlooked by your naturopathic doctor.
Nutrition can be confusing. Which foods should you eat more of? Which foods should you eat less of? What about the ketogenic diet or the Mediterranean diet? Naturopathic doctors receive 3 years of training in nutrition and are more than confident to deal with whatever nutrition questions you may have. Whether it's for everyday health or for treatment of illness, let's find the foods that are right for you.
Being bombarded with a never ending list of nutritional supplements you should be taking is overwhelming. Not only that, they are expensive and may not be benefiting your health in the expected way. Naturopathic doctors, on and individual basis, can determine exactly what is right and necessary for you.
Not only can nutritional supplements be used for everyday health, but they can be used in the targeted treatment of disease. I use professional grade supplements that have been extensively researched in treating various medical conditions may be a big part of your health plan moving forward.
Most of us know what we're supposed to do - eat well, sleep 8 hours, drink water, and exercise. Although it really is that simple, and it sounds really easy, it is often hard to put into action. Working together, we can figure out what you and your body needs, while overcoming any barriers of incorporating these important health routines into your everyday life.
While I will never expect perfection from you, I want you to feel your best. There is never any judgement in my office and we will work together to make that happen!
Traditional acupuncture is one of the oldest practices of Chinese medicine. It involves inserting thin needles into specific points of the body. These points are designed to stimulate the body's natural healing mechanisms.
Dr. Tipper uses a combination of traditional and medical acupuncture. Medical acupuncture involves inserting a thin needle or multiple thin needles into specific parts of a muscle. The mechanical stimulation plus a release of endorphins lead to a reduction in pain, decreased muscle stiffness, and healing.
Dr. Tipper finds traditional acupuncture incredibly useful for sleep, stress, and anxiety!
IV vitamin therapy is a method of delivering high doses of important vitamins, minerals, and amino acids straight to the areas of your body that need it most. In choosing IV therapy over traditional oral supplementation, you can deliver a much higher amount of nutrients in a single dose. Each treatment is specified to meet the specific needs of the patient.
You can contact Dr. Kevin Tipper to determine if you are a candidate for IV therapy.
What is prolotherapy?
Prolotherapy is a form of regenerative joint injection therapy. The goal of the injection is to stimulate the body’s innate healing ability to strengthen and repair joints and connective tissue. Not only is this good for chronic issues such as pain and instability, but also for acute injuries.
How does it work?
The injection is a mixture of a sugar (typically dextrose) and an anesthetic (procaine or lidocaine). The solution irritates the tissue and causes a local inflammatory response. This stimulates healing and the growth of new connective tissue. Over a series of injections, the strength of damaged connective tissue can be increased.
How many treatments are required?
Frequency and total number of treatments varies depending on the site and severity of injury. Some patients only need one treatment while others may need 10 or more. On average, most patients will receive 4 to 6 treatments, with one injection every 2-6 weeks.
Did you know naturopathic doctors are trained in spinal adjustments or spinal manipulation? NDs receive 2 years of training in spinal manipulation and can adjust all joints of the body.
Spinal manipulations may be part of the answer to your back pain, neck pain, headaches, and more. Dr. Kevin Tipper may include spinal manipulations alongside targeted exercise rehab, acupuncture, stretches, prolotherapy, massage and other treatments to correct long standing pain.
Botanical medicine is plant-derived medicine. Did you know that garlic naturally lowers blood pressure? That cinnamon can reduce blood sugar? That lavender helps with anxiety? These are just some of the amazing things that plants can do for us.
Botanical medicine is one of the most highly researched areas of naturopathic medicine and can be used in conjunction with other treatments or on its own to treat a variety of diseases. In fact, many pharmaceuticals are derived from plants and in most cases, we can still use those plants effectively, often with less potent side-effects.
It is misunderstood that naturopathic doctors have vastly different training from medical doctors. Of course, there are some differences, but naturopathic doctors learn many of the treatment methods that medical doctors do, including pharmaceuticals. In fact, naturopathic doctors can prescribe almost all of the same medications that an MD can. The difference is, it may not be our first treatment choice.
However, sometimes pharmaceuticals are entirely necessary and NDs can prescribe when needed! Furthermore, knowing all about pharmaceuticals helps NDs manage your pharmaceuticals and if possible, get you off drugs quicker!
Naturopathic doctors have access to lab testing through Life Labs. This helps NDs accurately diagnose and treat disease and also catch any deficiencies that may be leading to poor health.
Dr. Tipper will also take the time to go through and explain all of your lab results with you, including labs that your medical doctor has ordered, so that you understand everything that is happening with your health. There will be no more wondering what your results mean or if everything is healthy and normal.
Naturopathic doctors also have access to more unconventional testing such as cortisol (your stress hormone), sex hormone (estrogen and testosterone), and food sensitivity testing, among others.
